Desiree's story actually starts back in March of 2011.  One night while pondering I got a distinct impression that there was a little ready to join our family and I needed to prepare.  Less than three months later we found out we were pregnant.  This pregnancy was a lot like my others, plagued with nausea and heartburn.  We had an ultrasound around twenty weeks that confirmed we were having a girl and we were all thrilled.  Of course Kieralee was especially excited as she had been praying it would be a sister.

When I first found out I was pregnant I figured I would do a home birth.  Heath's birth was at a free standing birth center with an amazing midwife team.  And his labor/delivery were perfection, best VBAC anyone could ask for.  It wasn't a far step to just stay home and do what I did at a birthing center.  Then I came across a new birth center that just opened up in NC and they took my insurance.  I started seeing these lovely ladies with my sister-in-law who was also pregnant with a little girl, due a week before me!  Unfortunately, when I got to about 32 weeks they gave me the bad news that my insurance wouldn't cover the birthing center itself.  Everything else was covered, just not the free standing birthing center.  Kevin and I talked and we decided to go back to a home birth.  My wonderful midwife cousin recommended a midwife to me (she was due too close with her own baby to take me on herself).  The home birth was on again!

February fifteenth was my 41 weeks mark.  I decided to brave a trip to Wal-Mart with my three kiddos in tow.  It took me two hours to get all the things on my list and I didn't even lose my patience.  I saw my midwife that evening for a regular check-up on me and the baby.  We were both doing great, well I was doing as good as I could considering I was a feeling huge and overdue.

At 1:30ish in the morning on February sixteen I woke up to a huge contraction and evidence that things were finally getting closer to having a baby.  Ten minutes later I had another contraction, ten minutes later another and that's how it went for an hour before I woke up Kevin and said, "I think we are going to have a baby tonight."  We decided to go ahead and call my parents to pick up the kids so I didn't have to worry about them.  Then I went back to bed and tried to rest between each contraction that continued to happen every ten minutes.  At 6:30am I called the midwife to check in with her and let her know what was happening.  She said she'd be over shortly.  She got to the house around 7:30am and my cousin, who had had her baby 10 days earlier, showed up around 9am-ish.  I did some laboring in a pool, some walking around, some on a birthing stool, but they stayed ten minutes a part.  Finally around noon-ish they got close, two minutes or so close and they got intense.  But my water wouldn't break.   Sometime close to 3pm I felt like pushing.  I couldn't get comfortable lying down so I ended up standing holding on to Kevin's neck.  I started pushing.  I pushed the bag down and the babies head.  My water broke one push and the next push I was pushing her head out.  When she finally came out my cousin made an amazing catch!  Desiree was here, 3:12pm.

This labor was longer and harder than I had anticipated but we got her here and we couldn't be happier.
