Saturday's are special days!

This Saturday was truly a special day, it was also an extremely fun day! It started off with some nice weather, you know the kind that isn't unbearably hot. Well, not unbearable for Texas standards. The low 90's would still kill my parents, but we thought it was heaven! So in the morning Kevin mowed the grass and then afterward we took the training wheels off Lathen's bike and helped him practice riding it. He wants so much to ride it all by himself, but he hasn't quite figured out how to balance yet.

Our neighbors driveway is the perfect spot to ride. Their driveway goes all the way to the back of their house and no one lives there so we can use it without being in anyone's way! The kids love riding down our driveway, make the turn, go down the sidewalk, make another turn and then down our neighbors driveway!

Pumping up Lathen's tires!

Love the tongue.

All sweaty and done riding for the day.

Now onto the BIG news!!! Let me start by recapping a bit. We started our summer off with me having to jump in fully clothed, shoes and all after Lathen who was stranded in the deep end of a pool (he couldn't swim). Then we spent some time trying to get him to swim and him having no confidence refusing to go past his waste in water. He wouldn't put his head in or anything and he hated for us to take him out over his head. Then I bought him this special swim suit that has built in floats on the chest and back. It makes him completely buoyant. First time with that on and he was like a fish! He would swim all over a pool. He still wasn't thrilled with going under and when he would jump in he would cover his entire face with both hands, so no water would get in his face. Finally he got pretty darn good swimming with his special suit on. We got back from NC at the end of July and hadn't been to a pool since. Then this past Saturday some friends invited us over to their house to swim, eat and swim some more. I told the kids we were going to a pool so they ran to get their swimsuits on. I guess in Lathen's excitement he didn't think about his "special" swimsuit and just put on his regular swim shorts. I secretly brought along the special suit but didn't tell him just to see how he'd do. Well, much to our delight Lathen jumped right in without any hesitation and took off swimming like a pro!!! He even jumped off the diving board and didn't cover his face. It was one proud moment for us!

This is Lathen's dive (I love it!)

Now let me just tell you about Kieralee and swimming...she didn't care that her special suit made it where she couldn't go under. She typically hates having the water near her face and she doesn't like us to take her away from the steps where she can touch. Well, a few minutes into swimming and I talked her into getting in a round floaty. I explained that if she held on she could go anywhere in the pool she wanted and she did just that! Deep end and all the girl was all over that pool. Which is a big deal for her, we're so proud of her!!!

Oh and she would even jump in the pool going under and popping back up, all by herself!!

Thank you Z family for one fun evening and FANTASTIC food!!!
