Pain

At 12 days old Heath had his first trip to the doctor. I'm sure it will be one that he'll be glad he can't remember. He got circumcised, ouch. Other than that everything went great. He looked good and weighed in at 10 lbs. 4 oz. (which he is over 12 lbs now).

I've been asked about the pain I experienced during labor and delivery. Yes, there was pain. When the contractions got really intense I just kept my eyes closed, I breathed out loud (in a deep tone, deep tones help open the pelvis) and I tried to stay positive in my mind. The mental part was the most important for me. Not letting thoughts of negativity flow in like, "This hurts, I can't do this" but instead telling myself positive things like, "Ok, that was a good one, I bet it really moved me closer!" or "It won't last forever and I can do this!" Relaxing in the tub helped a lot. Being able to rock or sway or move in the water without effort, unlike being out of the tub where every time I wanted to move I had to use my muscles and use great effort to move my body (does that make sense?). Finally, when it came time to push I wanted to! I wanted to do nothing more than push. The pushing for me wasn't too bad. I remember with Lathen it was a lot worse, but then again it lasted a lot longer with Lathen (try hours). Heath only took 4 minutes to come out. By the time it hurt it was over. And honestly I wanted him out so bad that I didn't care how much it hurt :) So, in conclusion yes there was pain, yes it hurt, but it wasn't horrible, it didn't last forever and it was more than worth it!
