Life

I am not aware of anything else that makes you realize more keenly how precious, special, amazing or fleeting and fragile life is than parenthood. Life truly is a miracle. I had that precious gift of life put into perspective again, today. Kieralee took a bite of a cashew nut and almost instantly she began to scratch her tongue. She complained of it itching and then she began to tear at her throat with her fingernails. She cried out saying they itched and it felt like something was in her throat. We've been down this road once before. Immediately I gave her some Benadryl as we loaded up to head to the hospital. What should be a 45 minute drive took us less than 20. Kevin pulled up to the front door and I jumped out and ran in with Kieralee in my arms. She was covered in a raised red rash, her eyes bloodshot, spots on her were bleeding where she scratched too hard and her breathing was strained. The nurses took great care of her. The doctor prescribed the medicines she needed and the nurses went to work. One nurse in particular was especially wonderful. She was so kind and understanding to Kieralee's pain, fear and anger (she really doesn't like shots).

We are home now. Kieralee is napping, worn out from the days events. And I am grateful for the blessing of three little lives, Lathen, Heath and my sweet baby girl Kieralee.
