Horton Hears a Fire Alarm?

Like many of my friends I went to see Horton Hears a Who over the Easter weekend. I went with my kiddos, my Mom, my sister-in-law Jess and my nephew Noah. During our movie all of a sudden the movie stopped and this buzzer started going off. My first thought was "The weather is nice, that can't be a tornado warning." Then my next thought was "Fire Alarm!" To which I got up, grabbed Lathen, looked at my family and said "Let's Go!" Mom grabbed Kiera, Jess grabbed Noah and out the nearest exit we went. It amazed me that we were the only ones moving. Slowly others began to trickle out. Luckily it was a false alarm and after the fire department came and cleared the theater we were able to go back in and finish the movie.
I couldn't help but think how sad it is that we are so desensitized to things that we don't even have the instinctive reaction to get out when an alarm goes off. What did all those years of school fire drills teach us? Do we not live in a world where crazy people could be going on a shooting rampage in the theater and maybe someone thought to pull a fire alarm? Or maybe it actually could be a fire? I'd be darned if I would burn to death watching Horton Hears a Who, no matter how good a movie!
In the end we had a great time!
