Every night after the kids are already asleep Kevin and I go into their rooms. We pull their covers over them, rub their hair, feel their soft cheeks, give them one more kiss and whisper 'I love you' to them. Often no matter how asleep the kids are they will mumble back an I love you. I can't go to sleep until we have done this, I just have to go see that they are ok. (Besides the fact that it is one of my favorite parts of our night!) I love to see the kids so peaceful. I often wonder what they are dreaming about...
Many times I have found myself offering up a prayer to Heavenly Father. Thanking Him for my little ones, asking His help in their behalf, and asking for His help in my behalf to be the mother they each need me to be.
I am very grateful for this simple nightly ritual that has become an important part of our lives.

Joni, don't make me cry. This is a beautiful post...and they are beautiful kids. Love you guys!
Joni Dew you are an amazing mommy! I was just thinking last night about how amazing you are! Yesterday marked 6 years since I've been home from my mission...my thought was, "I left Joni and Boone today." How time has flown and how much you've grown! Coming to visit you and your fam in Dallas is a cherished memory...topped only by our trip to the Dallas temple! You're amazing! I love you!
That is beautiful--and y'know, when your kids are teens, they'll roll their eyes, and secretly love that you still do that :D
I do that, too. Especially since they both have adorable squishy cheeks. I just gotta kiss them and tell them how much I love them!
