The coolest parent

One day Lathen informed me that "Dad is the best!" I asked him why he thought Dad was the best and he replied, "Because he fights on the bed with me!" I then asked him what he liked about me and he said, "You make me lunch." Wow, my cool status comes down to making the kid lunch?! Oh well, I'll take what I can get.

I have to admit that when it comes to being a cool parent Kevin does a good job. I think he has an advantage in that fact that the kids don't have to put up with him all day long. He gets to swoop in at the end of the day, right when I'm about to lose all patience, and save the day. That actually gets him points from both the kids and myself :) The kids treasure every second they get with their dad and love to do anything with him. They think he's great because they get to ride their bikes while he mows or because he calls them sous chef and lets them help him cook. Of course as I've already mentioned he fights on the bed with them which is Lathen's favorite thing in the entire world.

Then there are those weekends that Kevin seals his title as coolest parent. Weekends like this past one when Kevin decided to set up the tent and "camp" in the backyard. You would have thought the kids won some special award; they were so excited. Kevin cooked the yummiest hobo dinner in our new dutch oven (we cashed in our credit card points!), then we roasted marshmallows and ate s'mores. The kids loved helping dad with the fire and couldn't wait to cuddle up in the tent.

I happily let Kevin have these moments. I love that our kids adore him and pretty much worship him at this point in their lives. I was more than content to take my pregnant self inside at bedtime and sleep in our bed close to our bathroom. So to Kevin, the coolest Dad, I salute you!

Our new dutch oven, makes me happy :)

This is what they looked like first thing in the morning:

Razzle came in the tent to wake them up!

We have a new reward system for the boys, and when they complete an entire section of their chart, they earn a "date" with either mommy or daddy -- one on one. They have all three informed me that for their dates, they will be choosing daddy. Always. And I have no chance of ever being chosen.

And I am TOTALLY okay with this.
