I have been stereotyped

Let me preface this story a little bit. A few weekends ago our neighbors invited our kids over to play with her little girl in their backyard. While the kids played the mother and I chatted. We talked about all sorts of things and of course something came up that made me make a comment about church. She promptly asks "Where do you go to church?" To which I responded "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." She tries not to look shocked and says "Where is that?" I tell her and then the conversation moved on.

Now on to the real story...

Today Kevin and I were standing in our driveway talking when our neighbor (from above) walks over. She goes "I almost came over here today to get your help." Both of us give that "Oh really, why?" look. Then she says "I hate to stereotype, but I figured you were really good at organization and stuff like that." I laughed and said I would be happy to help out any way I could, but she told me they were already done. I just thought it was very strange and funny. I have been stereotyped many things because of my religion, but a professional organizer has never been one of them.

One more thing. Exactly what does starting a sentence with "I hate to stereotype" really suppose to do? Suddenly you are now allowed to stereotype because you have a nice disclaimer at the beginning?

Yeah, and my mother-in-law (who is sweet to a fault) says you can say anything about someone if you start with "bless her heart"...

haha. it's like when people say, "bless his/her heart". like if they say that, they can say whatever horrible thing they want and it's all ok. :)

Ha! What a great stereotype for church members to be known for! :)

Organized?!? I suppose it's good I don't live there or you could help her organize which teeth go back in her mouth correctly. :)

Now that I am done laughing and can breath again I'm going to say it was a good thing they were done. I remember your organization as spreading your stuff out over the entire house.

The gunny monster had a field day with you. :-P
