Making the most of it

My parents came to visit us this weekend. They arrive Thursday around 2pm-ish. We had a fun filled weekend planned. Unfortunately Thursday night Lathen came down with a fever. He went to bed sick but to our surprise woke up feeling fine. So we went to the pumpkin patch. My mom even did the bounce houses with the kids!

(I should note here that a few days before all this I was uploading some pictures from my camera to the computer when my foot got snagged on the camera cord. My camera crashed lens first on the floor. It shattered my lens protector and now things aren't working right. Thankfully I still have a service plan on it so it will be heading to the shop soon. Can I just tell you the sick feeling I got when my poor camera crashed into the floor? Ugh, it was horrible. So note that a lot of my pictures look...bad. Mostly it is over exposing anything I take outside in the sunlight.)

When we got home from the pumpkin patch Kieralee started to act different. It's one of those things that as a mom you can tell when your child just isn't quite right. By Friday night she had a fever and was sick. She ended up going to bed with Kevin and I. Friday night was one of the worst nights of our parenting careers. She woke up constantly, screaming out about this hurting or that hurting. Her fever was high and her breathing was shallow. Saturday she laid around the house. Pretty much refusing to eat or drink. Which is always worrisome when your child is sick with a fever, but she had diarrhea as well. We finally talked her into some popcorn, that she didn't eat much of and forced sips of liquids any chance we got. By Saturday night we were pretty worried about her. We called some friends who had been through the swine flu, got some advice and ended up with some Tamiflu. Even though she ended up throwing up Saturday night and taking a bath at 1:30am we could see small changes that gave us hope that she was on the recovering end of things. She slept better Saturday night and by 3am started waking up asking for something to drink. Sunday she was still running a 100-101 fever with the Tamiflu, but was acting so much better. Today she woke up with no fever, thank goodness!

Since Kieralee was so sick we didn't get to do some of the other things we had planned for my parents visit. We did however carve two pumpkins and Lathen got to go around the block and trick-or-treat. Sadly I was busy rocking Kieralee and didn't get a single picture of Lathen and his Daddy dressed up.

Kieralee trying to be a part of the pumpkin carving...not feeling too good.

Can you tell she feels bad?

This is how we do sick at our house. Laying on the couch!

It's the WORST when your kids are sick. We'll have to have tons of fun when you guys come up here to make up for lost time!

The poor girl...I am so sorry to hear she was sick, and I'm so glad that she is feeling so much better. Hopefully it won't take much longer before she's back at 100%.
