Let me start by saying that I'm pregnant and hormonal. People should know not to cross a pregnant woman, we can snap over anything. Since the kids have now had the swine flu and we are all recovered and been fever free for 3 days (new reports say you only have to wait 24 hours before returning to the world) I decided to go to the gym. I had been avoiding the gym in hopes of avoiding the flu, but since it found us anyway I figured we are good to go.
How many moms out there know that even after a child is no longer sick they will often carry a cough for weeks??? I felt down 3 weeks ago, got a cough that I still can't quite kick. Back to my story.
So I drop the kids off in the childcare (I noticed one mom in there coddling her crying son) and start my workout. Five minutes later I get called back to the childcare. The conversation goes like this:
Lady: Are your kids sick?
Me: No.
Lady: I noticed they are coughing...
Me: They have a cough, but they aren't sick.
Lady: So, they aren't contagious?
Me: No, they are NOT contagious.
Lady: Ok, I just wanted to check.
Me: Ok.
I go back to my workout. Twenty-five minutes later I get called down again (now remember my kids have already been in there a good thirty minutes. Plenty of time to spread any germs they might have). The conversation goes like this:
Lady: Um, I've had some parents complain about your kids coughing
Me: (there is only one other kid in here, the coddler's kid) Ok.
Lady: I had my supervisor come in and they heard them cough too.
Me: Ok.
Lady: So we're going to have to ask you to leave.
Me:.....
Lady: We just don't want any other kids to get sick.
Me: My kids aren't sick.
Lady: Well, they are coughing.
Me: (Does no one else realize the difference between leftover congestion and sickness?) Ok, well what about my daughter who has allergies and coughs year round???
Lady: Well, some parents bring a doctors note.
Me: So I'm suppose to pay to see my pediatrician to get a note just so my kid can cough and not get sent home?
Lady:....
Me: How about my epi-pen? Would that be enough?
(*I should note that I was a little overly hot tempered about all this)
Lady:....
So I signed my name over both spots (I'm suppose to sign two spots, one for each child), throw the pen down and leave.
I think they lady was babbling some excuses or responses but I wasn't listening to her anymore.
As soon as I step out of the childcare, Kieralee starts one of her scream fits because she wanted to finish coloring her picture. I was so pissed at that mom, who was two machine away from where Kieralee was now screaming, that I let Kieralee go at it. I didn't even try to stop her. Finally I said in a clear, loud voice, "Kieralee it's not my fault. It's parents that don't know the difference between a cough and being contagious." Kieralee continues to scream for awhile (a good five minutes at least). Everyone around us was uncomfortable and I could tell, but I did NOT care. The mom and her husband kept looking over at us. Finally the mom made eye contact with me...I said, "Thanks, really." I picked Kieralee up and we headed out.
I may have over reacted. Do I regret it? Nope.
Then I went to Wal-mart to do my grocery shopping. Already in a poor mood. The kids must have sensed it because they were horrible. Crying, whining, fighting. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Do they not realize the hormones they are messing with???
